Open Hearts, an installation of the Confined Hearts Project, was first shown as part of the Chippendale New World Art Prize, June 2016. Each heart was shrouded in white muslin and placed in a circular formation with an empty central space. A piece of temporary fencing stood next to the 400 hearts. Viewers were invited to pick up a heart, unwrap it and place it in the central space and, if they wanted, to write a message on the cloth and tie it to the fence. Over the course of a month all hearts were ‘opened’ and the fence became a wall of white.
In October 2016, Open Hearts was shown as part of Seeking Refuge exhibition at the Tuggeranong Art Centre, ACT.
